My Development Setup, managed with Nix, nix-darwin, and home-manager. Works on macOS, NixOS, and standalone Linux.

Quickstart

Setting up a new machine? Follow INSTALL.md — it covers the prerequisites (Homebrew, App Store, 1Password SSH agent) that the commands below assume are already in place.

1. Install Determinate Nix

curl --proto '=https' --tlsv1.2 -sSf -L https://install.determinate.systems/nix | sh -s -- install --determinate

2. Clone the repository

git clone https://simenandre.no/dotfiles.git ~/ghq/simenandre.no/dotfiles
cd ~/ghq/simenandre.no/dotfiles

3. Apply the configuration

macOS

Configurations are per-machine — makkie (user simenandre) and default (user cobraz). Substitute the one you are on.

On first run, bootstrap nix-darwin:

sudo nix run nix-darwin#darwin-rebuild -- switch --flake .#makkie

On subsequent runs:

sudo darwin-rebuild switch --flake .#makkie

NixOS

Generate hardware config and rebuild:

sudo nixos-generate-config --show-hardware-config > hosts/nixbox/hardware-configuration.nix
sudo nixos-rebuild switch --flake .#nixbox

Linux (standalone home-manager)
